Brooklyn is like a Brand now with a Reputation as NYC´s Cool, Hip Borough, Over the Past Years, though, Brooklyn has undergone a Massive Transformation. The Borough is now Home to some of NYC´s Trendiest Restaurants, Bars, and Shopping. The Demographic has changed, Members of the Original Communities are being pushed out to Accommodate a Younger, wealthier Polpulation. Gentrification happens in all Major Cities. Brooklyn is Very Expensive Housing Market in the U.S., outpacing San Francisco and even Manhattan. But that doesn´t mean Everybody who lives there is Wealthy.
Brooklyn has long been Expensive for most of those who live there, like most of New York. But there´s a Big Rift between the Affluent Professionals piling Millions into the Brownstone Neighborhoods of Carroll Gardens, Park Slope and Brooklyn Heights and the Rest of Brooklyn, a Middle-To-Working Class Haven for Low Pretension and Inexpensive Food. Brooklyn has a Population of over 2.5m People. It´s a Mixture of New and Old : Families who have lived here for Generations and Migrants who have just arrived. In William Boyle's Books mentionned above (Everything is Broken & The Lonely Witness), we feel all those changes up to the details given on the Characters' Everyday's Life.
In "Tout est Brisé" (Everything is Broken", Erica is completely under Personal and Professional Pressure, trying to live a Decent Life with a long lasting Low Income Job, taking Care of her Sick Father who is very Demanding, hoping that her Only Son will come back to help her (with whom she has difficult relashionship)... Her struggles and the return of her Son Jimmy with consequences takes you by the throat....

In "Le Témoin Solitaire" (The Lonely Witness) is the second Novel set in Brokklyn after "Gravesend". Amy Falconetti, the heroine, worked as a Hard-Partying Bartender and dated an Aspiring Actress named Alessandra. Now in her mid-30s and alone, Amy is Volunteering as a Eucharistic Minister, bringing Communion to Elderly Shut-Ins who live in her Neighborhood. Her Boring Life is suddenly turned Upside Down when she witnesses a Murder....
